Judy Markham Headshot

Founder & Educator

Hi, I’m Judy.

My journey into education began more than two decades ago with a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), followed by a Graduate Diploma of Education (Primary). After several years in the classroom, I went on to complete a Master of Special Education and discovered a deep passion for teaching reading. For over 15 years, I’ve worked in a specialised role supporting students who experience difficulties learning to read.

Since then, I’ve remained committed to ongoing professional development, with a focus on evidence-based reading instruction.
My training includes certification in several programs, including Sounds-Write, Yoshimoto Orton-Gillingham, UFLI, and MultiLit. I’m also an individual member of SPELD NSW and Learning Difficulties Australia, and I regularly engage with the high-quality professional learning opportunities offered by these respected organisations.

At the heart of my teaching philosophy is a commitment to identifying each child’s unique challenges and designing tailored programs that support their literacy development. Just as essential is building a genuine, meaningful rapport with each student—creating a foundation of trust where learning can thrive.

I take a calm, structured approach that helps children clearly understand the purpose of each lesson, fostering a safe environment where they feel encouraged to take risks and challenge themselves. By closely observing their responses, I can recognise signs of frustration or overwhelm and adjust my strategies accordingly. This responsive, student-centred approach ensures we stay on track while steadily building on what the child already knows—helping them grow in confidence and skill.

I’m a strong advocate for consistency and connection in education and the profound impact they can have on a child’s learning journey.

Celia and I first met while completing our Graduate Diplomas in Education, and our long-standing friendship has since evolved into a valued professional partnership. Together, we are committed to supporting students who find reading challenging.

While we teach the same foundational content, we each bring our own unique strengths, perspectives, and styles to our sessions. This diversity enriches our teaching and enhances the learning experience for the students we support.

Our shared goal is to help every child feel confident, capable, and curious—empowering them to explore the world through reading.

Together, we’re opening new doors for young learners, one reader at a time.
